The manuscript published here is a fragment like many things here. I publish with it ideas and thoughts from my work in digital image processing, which are connected with methods of signal theory. For a long time I worked together with my friend and colleague Herbert Süße in this field, later on alone for some years.
The manuscript now available has grown over years, not only in size. It is time to make it available now, even if not everything is yet completely satisfactorily formulated and some content is missing. In time, a few more chapters will be added. Nevertheless the present state should provide a good introduction to the problems of signal theory, with emphasis on applications to image processing. The most important areas are:
- Signals and functions - an introduction
- Convolution and correlation
- Fourier transform
- image restoration
- Transform estimation
